Amongst a fire-damaged site were the few remains of an existing two-bedroom workman’s cottage, presenting a unique opportunity for rebirth amongst one of Sydney’s thriving suburbs. Located on a sloping topography within a conservation zone, the project suggested that a thorough yet thoughtful reconstruction was necessary.
The humble front façade was restored to its previous single storey pitched roof design, keeping to the original streetscape of adjacent housing, yet concealing a contemporary composition of space below.
