The owners of this modern house in Castle Cove came to us wanting to add a new external lift to facilitate access to their home. While they wanted to incorporate the elevator into the design of their house with minimal impact to the existing structure, they also wanted to maintain their views of Middle Harbour. Having glass walls to the new lift promotes the ability to enjoy the views.
The house is on a steep site and classified in a bushfire flame-zone area. These factors were taken into consideration when determining the location of the new elevator and connecting accessways.
Owen Haviland, Esraa Kalil and the team at Haviland Architects worked collaboratively with our clients and consultants during the schematic design process, through to the Development Application and Construction Certificate stages to obtain approval for its construction.
With the works recently completed, the delighted owners invited us back to test the new lift and appreciate the views while in it! The additions include a new elevator, sandstone stairs and associated landscaping.
